Dear Fellow Rotarians,

I hope you are all having a good week, enjoying good health, and a healthy sprinkling of rain to keep the grass growing and the flowers and shrubs happy.

Thank you to Richard Ferrari for bringing us Paul Vo and Gisela Tejada this past Friday, who are getting out the message about PTSD (Post Trauatic Stress Disorder) for active duty military. Their organization, Active Heroes, is sponsoring an event, called The Stand At Attention Competition, on Saturday, September 6th from 10am to 8pm at Memorial City Mall.  One representative from each branch of the military will stand at attention all day and we have the opportunity to drop money into buckets in front of each participant.  Please stop by and contribute to this worthy organization.

Our speaker for Friday, August 15th, is Mark Struczewski, and he is hosted by Don Kelley.  He will speak about overcoming roadblocks to our success and shares practical lessons he has learned to help us break through our internal barriers and move forward. Looking forward to hearing him speak.

Saturday afternoon, August 16th, from 4pm to 6pm, we can help serve dinner to the residents of The Turning Point Center, at 1701 Jacquelyn Drive, 77055.  Contact Bill Haglund to see if volunteers are still needed.  Bill participates in this project of the Heights Rotary Club on the third Saturday of each month.  Sign up in advance to participate.

Beginning at 6PM, August 16th, Ed and Karen Wilson are hosting us at their home for our first Potluck dinner of the new Rotary year.  Bring a favorite food for sharing.  If your favorite food is ice cream, you can bring that!  I love Blue Bell vanilla.  I also love Coffee, Butter Pecan and Chocolate.

On Saturday,  August 23rd, we need your help at the Spring Branch Family Development Center's Health Fair, which we help sponsor.  It is located at 8575 Pitner, 77080.  It is north of the corner of Kempwood and Hollister in Spring Branch.

This Friday, we will begin to take orders for our new Carolina Blue collared polo shirts with our club logo. The information will be available at the meeting.

Last night was Orientation for our newest members, Genevieve Rowland, sponsored by Venu Rao, and Sarah Agnich, sponsored by Gwen Corolla.  Genevieve will be away on vacation, but please welcome Sarah Agnich as she greets us at the door.  Sarah is in Corporate Banking with Frost Bank.  We are delighted to have her join our Club.  When Genevieve returns from vacation, we will have the opportunity to welcome her.

If you have a friend or acquaintance you would like to invite to a Rotary meeting, or bring to our Potluck on Saturday night, please know they are welcome.

Our monthly Board Meeting takes place after our regular meeting Friday.  You are welcome to attend and listen to our future plans being discussed.
