Dear Fellow Rotarians,
Thank you to all who attended last Friday's meeting. We had an outstanding speaker from Faith In Practice. Mireya and Miguel spent time in Guatamala volunteering with their medical organization. Thanks to Mireya for asking them to come and speak to us.
This Friday, Jack Clark has arranged for us to hear John H. Duncan, Sr., born and raised in Houston and responsible for the founding of the RISE School. He has had a fascinating life and I am sure you will enjoy hearing his story.
On August 8th, Richard Ferrari has invited Gisela Tejada and Paul Vo to speak about PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) for active duty military. It should be very informative.
Carter and I are going to College Station Friday morning, where our Granddaughter, Renee, will marry the love of her life, Noel Mayes, on Saturday night. President-Elect Gwen Corolla will be standing at the podium leading the meeting. I know she will do a fabulous job. She'll be a great President for 2015-2016.
Carter and I went to Sam Houston State University this morning to meet a 5 year old girl, Zoe Clancy, who was born without a complete right hand. She now has one, an LN-4 hand, with which she can hold a toothbrush, hold a spoon, lift a mug and write her name on a piece of paper. It is amazing to be able to give such a beautiful child something we all take for granted. I took pictures of Carter adjusting the hand for her and showing her how to use it. He made her feel comfortable and her expression changed from curiosity to joy as she progressed using it. It was a real "WOW" moment. We will show you the pictures next week. We did it in the name of Memorial-Spring Branch Rotary Club, and you should all feel pride in this project.

Please plan to join me, Carter and James at Café Brussels on Tuesday, August 5th, 1718 Houston Avenue, 77007 for our second "Rotary After Dark" club dinner. It should be a wonderful evening. Learn more about it at the meeting. Our first dinner at Cavatore's last Wednesday was great. If you were not able to come to that dinner, I hope you will join us for this one. Bring someone you think will be interested in Rotary.
Saturday night, August 16th is our pot-luck at Ed and Karen Wilson's home. Please plan to attend. We always enjoy these dinners.
Saturday, August 23rd is our Health Fair Service Project. Mark it on your calendar. 8am to noon. Spring Branch Family Development Center, 8575 Pitner, 77080. We always need lots of volunteers to work shifts throughout the morning.
If you have not already done so, please remember to bring your Dues and/or District Assessment this Friday.
Will see you on Friday, August 8th.
