An Open Letter from K.T. Shah, MD – May 15, 2014

 

To all my Friends,

 

I am writing this letter to give you some information regarding the IDC (Indian Doctors’ Charity) CLINIC and my role in it.  I practiced Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine from 1973 to Dec. 2004 in Houston, Texas.  I deliberately took early retirement in Dec. 2004 because I wanted to do charity social work at Houston and in India.  I have been working as volunteer physician and medical director at IDC CLINIC since 2005.

 

We see all patients completely free of charge and provide free blood tests. Radiology work is done at very discounted rates. All patients are seen regardless of RACE, RELIGION OR NATIONALITY. Clinic sees 30 to 35 patients every Saturday and approximately 1300 to 1500 patients are seen in one year.

 

Doctors working at this clinic are all of Indian origin and members of INDIAN DOCTORS’ ASSOCIATION OF GREATER HOUSTON. All doctors who work at this clinic are volunteers and work without any compensation.

 

Our annual expense of this clinic is approximately $50,000/ per year which includes payments to nurses and ancillary staff, rent, telephones insurance and supplies.

 

 

This clinic is a very good example of our Indian community giving back to the local Greater Houston community.
